Beautiful Busselton.....

We have named the areas of Bunbury and Busselton "Lange Land" as our friends the Langes are from this gorgeous area. It is not hard to see why they have loved living around these parts.

The main sight to see in Busselton is the iconic Busselton Jetty which is a great example of what a great community spirit exists here....

The jetty is the longest in the Southern Hemisphere (1.8km long) and boasts a rather turbulent history.
In 1973 the jetty was closed after servicing 5000 vessels in 100 years. Government maintenance ceased at this time.

A crippling cyclone in 1978 seemed like the end for the jetty, but the community rallied to raise money for restoration and maintenance. Between 1987 and 2003 the group raised enough funds to replace 50% of the jetty, establish the train service, and construct the Underwater Observatory at the end of the jetty.

When under re-construction the jetty also caught fire from a stray cigarette and the only way they could save what was left was to 'chainsaw' the end off!!! Desperate measures for desperate times...

Further funding from State and Local Government meant full restoration was completed this year.

It is a great example of what people power can do. Truly inspirational! Thank goodness for this great bunch of devoted people saving a historical landmark!!

We travelled on the train at 6km/hr out to the Underwater Observatory...

At the Underwater Observatory you descend down a spiral staircase until you reach the ocean floor at 8 metres deep.

A beautiful clear day uptop meant visibility was fabulous down underneath.......

The jetty wooden piles are home to many underwater sponges, crustaceans, corals and invertebrates......

Plenty of  Yellowfins and other fish to watch....
A real life aquarium....

A truly beautiful day, enjoyed immensely by us all.....

Great light to take photos with.....

Busselton, you are lovely!!
