Turtle love continues.....

This fortunate family have been lucky enough to visit Mon Repos (Bundaberg, QLD) three times in the last couple of years.

Lots of magic happens here with Loggerhead turtles laying and hatching on the beach that they are 'magnetically' attracted to from birth.

We have helped hatchlings with torches at 1130pm find their way to the water and we have moved newly laid eggs to higher ground on the dunes with the help of Rangers.

We have witnessed the tired mammas returning to the ocean after laying their 100 + eggs in the sands of Mon Repos.

We quite like turtles......

Therefore, any talk of seeing any type of turtle doing anything meant we were going to take a look.
Frank got a hot tip from a fellow camper where to go to witness turtles mating, resting and just hanging out.

The hot tip did not let us down....

It was reasonably good exercise getting to the turtles, but well worth it...

There was hundreds of them!!

Some were just so plum tuckered out from all the shenanigans that you could get quite close to them...

Others appeared more conscious than others and actually moved if you came near them....

Several had already started laying as can be guessed from their tracks up to the dunes and back to the ocean...

According to my astute children, these are Hawkesbill turtles that utilise the Jurabi coastline. This is the coastline just before you enter the Cape Range National Park.

Another great natural attraction that is thankfully well managed by National Parks....
