Have you heard of the 'Nullabor Links' golf course?
When you drive over the Nullabor you can stop and play a hole of golf at the designated spots which are found in towns or at roadhouses.
They call it the 'longest golf course in the world'.
1365 kilometres long, 18 holes, par 72
What an amazingly brilliant idea!! (particularly if you like golf)
The course starts in Kalgoorlie in WA and finishes at Ceduna in SA.
The holes have great memorable names like: Border Kangaroo, Brumby's run, Dingo's Den, Wombat Hole, Nullabor Nymph, Watering Hole, Eagles Nest to name a few...
We didn't seek out any of the holes of the course but we ended up staying at two of them.
First one was the hole named 'Sheep's Back' and was found at Fraser Range Station. It is a working sheep station and was full of character and charm.
The last remains of the old shearing shed...
Lots of old animal bones or perhaps 'fossils' as Charlie called them....
and lovely old homesteads...
The second hole we stayed at was called 'The Watering Hole' and was at the Mundrabilla Roadhouse.
The tee off area..
The Fairway..
The Green...
There is also some evidence around here of cars who didn't complete their journeys across the Nullabor....
Such unique, different places to stop for the night to break up the drive.
And people say it is boring driving across the Nullabor.......so not the case!
There was nearly a massacre when we drove across the Nullarbor with our girls a few years ago! I can't count how many times my husband stopped the car and told them he would leave them on the side of the road if they didn't stop fighting etc It was definetely a long trek, I almost needed therapy by the time we arrived in Adelaide...
ReplyDeleteAnyway you must try the seafood in Ceduna. I spent my 40th birthday there (yep. we like to celebrate in all the fancy places. ha-ha) it was delish.
What an amazing trip ... I'm always flabbergasted when I get on this blog!
ReplyDeleteHope all's well. Your photos are beautiful and breath-taking.
